This is a race in Belgium that any pro wants to win ..the prestigious “Gullegem Koerse” with UCI pro team entries, continental pro’s and invited amateur teams. The team of Marc Heaney Asfra-Flanders also in the mix in the already 74th edition of this very popular event in west Flanders. Been there a few times myself to witness the big stars doing their thing, and with thousands of spectators a festival of beer, hamburgers, dried fish, betting on the wrong ones mostly and fast racing. Before they do the local laps they already have done a big loop of the 171km race, this year at an average of 47km/hour! As we in the summer will cover through our guest photographers our Irish riders progress in Belgium, we give you here a taste of what we will feature at regular times. This time we lucky to had our guest mum Martine Verfaillie present ( 2 junior graduates will be staying with her after the Junior Tour of Ireland) and here her photo link to other photos. Martine is an official guest photographer of the project and will send us plenty of photos of our lads in action. This time Marc Heaney was racing, fresh from his stage win in the Tour of Albania, and in his on words felt good and finished in the main bunch in 71st place..seems like the big work is his virtue, and fits well in such company of top world pro’s so to speak..The winner was Jurgen Roelands from the BMC team beating his team mate Greg van Avermaet and Belgian Champion Oliver Naesen from the AGR2 La mondial in third. Thanks Martine for your great picts xx  & Full results courtesy of
