Pleased to see Stewart Thompson back to full health and refinding his form of 2 years ago when he was a very promising junior and badly crashed ..24 months of recuperating, rehabilitation and a lot of sweat and pain, training and slowly back in competition brought him back to the point of winning again..He is now back at the top level of A1 and surely will shows his skills soon with the big boys..well done Stewart..your parents must be over the moon to! Photo of Stewart winning courtesy of Alan Weir,  Photos of Steffan winning the A4 courtesy of Fotozone, report & results courtesy of Apollo CC (Promoters)  with thanks. Sunday 12th August 2018 saw some top class racing as Apollo Cycling Team held their ever popular annual Lurgan GP / Billy Stewart Cup road races. With over 140 riders from across Ireland and almost perfect weather conditions, the scene was set for fierce competition. This is the 3rd year Apollo CT has used their new course which takes in the village of Waringstown as well as the greater Lurgan town. A challenging course featuring a mixture of fast open roads and some small but sharp hills on the rolly Clare Road before a fast flat run for the finish on the main Gilford Road out of Lurgan. Stewart Thompson from Spires CC took 1st in the A2/A3 race following a spirited sprint up the Gilford Road to the finish line. In the A4 race Steffan Rafferty from Armagh came in 1st, with Colin McCloskey from host club Apollo CT claiming victory in the Vets race and Maeve Gallagher from Castlebar CC winning the Ladies race. Thanks to everyone who travelled to Lurgan to take part as well as the supporters who helped liven the atmosphere. And of course thanks to Apollo’s safety team for their efforts.
