On Sunday (16th September) the “Autumn Gold Races ” was held in “Loughgall-Country-Park” County Armagh, and due to other commitments I was not able to visit the race but with the help of John McArdle (Square Wheelers and organiser of the Masters league) and photographer Philip Blair http://www.flickr.com/photos/philblair a report could be made..thank you .
Masters report and podium result The masters and ladies race were over the same 60km distance that the A4 riders raced and a 3 man breakaway was established after 1 lap with the gap extending all the way to the finish. This was the last race of the Masters League and after over 20 races it was fitting that the top 2 men in the league contested the sprint for the win. Not for the first time this season Apollo CC man Feargal Magee was beaten on the line by the fast finishing league champion Ian McClure of Northern /Dave Kane. Cuchulain’s rider Jimmy Flynn completed the top 3 on the day… Here the overall podium of the league with Ian McClure as winner, Feargal Magee 2nd and Ards CC fast man John Rafferty 3th. Result & Report A4 race >>Race over 60km with 3 laps of a rolling course through County Armagh’s orchards. Two men broke away on lap 2 and raced alone all the way to the finish in Loughgall with Adam Skeet of Northern / Dave Kane edging out Ards CC man John Rafferty. Completing the podium and showing the bunch a clean pair of heels in the sprint was Carn Wheeler Stephen Downey. A blanket finish for the rest of the bunch with a couple of seconds all that seperated the next 20 riders after a very competitive race.

There were several breakaways in the opening couple of laps and a group including Clogher Valley’s Sean Mullin had a lead of upto 30 seconds midway round lap 2 which the bunch managed to bring back. A successful attack of 3 did get away on the last lap and stayed away to contest the podium positions. Mark Lyttle of Maryland Wheelers just edging out Island Wheeler Colin Murtagh with Newry Wheelers man Micheal Havern completing the top 3. The main bunch just like the A4s provided a very tight finish with Banbridge man Brian Hannon riding his first A3 race edging out Thomas Knapcock of Clogher Valley, Richard McCavana of Phoenix and Chris McCann of Inspired Cycling.

@Square Wheels Autumn Gold Road Race, attempting a bit of drone video. Electric wires everywhere are a nightmare. I think these are the A4's.

Special mention to other masters today. John Rafferty hammering the A4 field to take a storming breakaway 2nd and move up to A3, and Brian Hannon finishing 4th in his first A3 race, winning the bunch sprint behind a 3 man breakaway. Fantastic support from our members today and outstanding performances as has been the case all season (reports John McArdle)
