Living in Ireland with no indoor track (probably the only competing country in the world!!) doesn’t mean we can’t produce results on world stage..We have in the past already shown that it is not a hurdle if you are talented and be able to train and travel abroad (this to a big financial burden to the talented track stars including their parents) Our youngsters in Ireland have a mountain to climb but the dedication and determination sees them coming good year after year.¬† Partner one of our lads with a Belgian and European Champ and sparks are flying in the Olympic Stadium in London for their 6 day !! We even have World Champions in our ranks, Para Cycling Olympian Gold winners, World Cup winners and European medal that is also something we can brag about and bragging I will in such cases. Knowing personally Xeno Young and also a friend of the mum of Nicolas Wernimont (Veronique visit Ireland last year with her husband Rudy De Bie who is a Belgian National Youth Coach for “ Cycling Vlaanderen” and ex Belgian CX Champ at the Ulster CX Champs in Mallusk) this story has to be told. One the one hand we have Xeno who excelled as a junior as a TT rider and Track star and in his first year as an U/23, who also was an international rowing athlete when a bit younger (as his dad Garth Young who provide racing kits for rowers and cyclists with his Lisburn Powerhouse Sport company) only got his season going lately due to injuries received on a training spin in the spring (A car forced him in a barbed wire fence and cut the lad up badly) and on the other hand an upcoming Belgian second year junior Nicolas who is the Current Belgian and European Champ on the track ..well this two seems to have a sportive feel of each other when partnered in the very prestigious 1878 Stars of the Future Cup (U21) at the “6 Days of London 2018”¬†¬†Winning the Madison two days in a row and 3th in the last day of the event was enough to be victorious at the Queen Elisabeth Olympic Stadium. What a result for this two young lads and this will for certain boost their confidence and rightly so. The future is bright for both of them and wish them lots of success in the next few years. So Congratulations to Xeno and Proficiat to made a Belgian patriot very happy with such performances.
