Cycling Ulster Chairman, Tommy McCague has welcomed the growing partnership and initiatives in relation to road safety between some clubs in Mid Ulster, the PSNI and the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) in the area. Speaking after a meeting between local clubs and the PSNI in Magherafelt on Monday evening, Mr McCague said: “Road safety is an area that Cycling Ulster are keen to be proactive in and we have been supportive of the PSNI’s “Be Safe Be Seen” campaign. On Monday night, several clubs from Mid Ulster together with myself were present at an engagement with the PSNI based around road safety. The PSNI have a number of initiatives currently ongoing and in Mid Ulster, the PCSP are involved in helping fund these including cycling gilets and cameras for bikes. Cycle safety stickers for vehicles which encourage motorists to allow 1.5 metres while passing cyclists are also being promoted by the PSNI.  “Cycling Ulster ( are currently working on having similar opportunities developed throughout the north with the local PCSPs and I would encourage local clubs to do similar. Clubs should contact their local PCSP to see what support can be provided to raise more awareness for cyclists safety on the roads through gilets, cameras and stickers promoting the 1.5 metres passing of cyclists by motorists.” Contact information on the various Policing and Community Partnerships can be seen below.
