Today Mol in the East of Belgium had a few Irish visitors competing in the World Vet CX Champs with Des Woods  (Current Irish Champ M50 and Newry Wheelers), team mate Alan Bingham (feature photo and BP 10th anniversary medal sponsor) and Brendan Doherty (Doc) Vc Glendale’s top veteran. Also 2 lads from Dublin competed in the M40-44 class with Sean O’ Thathail (Bray Wheelers) and Gareth Muldowney (Clondalkin CC). In the M50-54 cat “The Doc” had a good draw on the front grid and after an immense battle finished in same lap of the winner Craig Nicholas from GB in 12th place out of 57 entries..With his Belgian colours they most have wondered who that tall fellow Irish Champ Des Woods was in the same race but started from the back on the grid and managed to move up 30 places !!!! to end up 28th..imaged he had a better could have been top 20.

The younger veteran Alan Bingham from Newry Wheelers was in the M45-49 race and also had to come from last place on the grid and moved up 33 places to end up in 25th place out of 58 world athletes (Same lap as the Slovakian winner Milan Barenyi) Sean O’Thathail and Gareth Muldowneyin the M40-44 class and Sean ended up 24th and will ask serious questions to his big rival Robin Seymour next month in Cork for the Nationals while Gareth finished in 49th. CI Coach of the year 2018 award winner Barry Monaghan (Newry Wheelers) was on hand to look after the Ulster Lads and showed with such results what he can do with some of his lads. Tomorrow we have our Irish Elite & U23 CX champ Darnell Moore in action in Mol  for an UCI CX Class 2 event, and the gang will be there to support our champ as Darnell helped out today his friends and this is what it is all about with sticking together and so great to see! Good luck to Darnell !! All photos borrowed from Newry Wheelers facebook page with thanks.
