“Autobus” is the French term for a group of cyclists that forms behind the leading group of the peloton. This group typically appears on mountain stages when sprinters, hard-working domestiques, flat-stage specialists and injured riders start to fall off the back of the main group. This rag-tag bunch bands together and continues on towards the finish.
Since the main interest of ‘the bus’ is arriving at the finish line before the time cut-off, there is a great sense of camaraderie and enjoyment of cycling within the group. Riders look out for each other, share water and food, and work together to beat the clock – despite riding for different teams. Also known as the laughing bunch. We are AUTOBUS !!
