Total entered for the Ulster Cyclo Cross Champs 2018 in Dungannon is near the 200 and the under age support races (non champion races) will still take entries on the day. At least a healthy number for the organising club Island Wheelers to make this worthwhile and a great thank you to them for taking this years champs on, as their Windmill CX have been a familiar feature each year in the past. Thomas Hepburn and his army of volunteers have been putting all the stops out to make this a successful and pleasant day out in Mid Ulster. With me doing the commentary I have been studying the entry’s and for the Elite Men & Junior race it could be a very close one ! Glenn Kinning, Graham Boyd, Thomas Creighton, Darnell Moore, Lewis Ferguson, Angus Fyffe and David Montgomery each winners on their own and I see the podium coming out of this riders for sure. I would have added the much improved Christian Nachtigal to this 7 but he has to race in the M40’s this year. Here a few collages of photos (included headline photo) send in by Fotozone Armagh to color the report and some single photo’s from David Mc Veigh to..with thanks
In the same race the juniors are present and have picked this 5 to do battle for the podium with bursary holder and new VC Glendale signing lee Harvey the one to beat. But easy he will not have it for sure with Ciaran Dixon, Paul Antoine Hagan, Somhairle Owens Fisher and Joe Owens to deal with on Sunday.
Low entry for the Womans Elite & Junior race but doesn’t mean it will be less competitive..With the Southern Girls not present due to their own champs we still have a quality field instead of a quantity field..It will be more a question if the very improved Rachel Irvine can keep the talented juniors at bay ! Darcey Harkness and Niamh Mc Kiverigan have an eye on the title to and this could be a very enjoyable battle between this girls.
There is also the other races such as the M40-M50 combined for the championships and not to be disregarded, as not only in the Veterans M4o race the champion will be called but also the team prize and this will be an immense battle between the Newry Wheelers, Dromara CC, Phoenix CC, Square Wheels CC, Inspired Cycling and Island Wheelers as home club to name a few teams..My money is on Newry Wheelers for that one. We have also the U14/U16 girls and boys Champs and full under age support races to
