Omagh Wheelers begin its twentieth anniversary celebrations by hosting its first ever series of Cyclocross races.  CX racing is one of the most exciting cycling disciplines and has taken the Ulster and Ireland cycling scene by storm in 2018. It provides for fast and furious racing in spectator friendly arenas. The event will be staged at the Ecclesville Demesne in the village of Fintona on Sunday 6th Jan with a full program of races from Underage right up to Adult. Sign-On will open at 9am with racing commencing at 10am. The Ecclesville Demesne is a fantastic venue for CX racing,a combination of fast grass sections, technical sections and forest trails including a spectacular climb up to an ancient wrath will provide the perfect preparation for the National Championships the following weekend. TheEcclesville Demesne is also the ideal venue for spectator with numerous good viewing points guaranteed on the 2km Circuit.  For local spectators it will be a fantastic opportunity to support National CX Champion Darnell Moore (Caldwell Cycles) just a week before he heads to Cork to hopefully defend his national title. For the CX competitors what a great opportunity to visit a new CX venue and race of the Christmas excesses before the National Championships.

Omagh Wheelers Chairperson Sean Kelly is delighted to see the Club host this event “IN recent years we have begun to promote CX to all members particularly our youth and are beginning to see it flourish in our club, so the next step was to host an event. Our CX team have done a fantastic job thus far and I know that the Ecclesville Demesne will quickly become established a one of the best CX venues in Ireland for both spectators and competitors” Martin Grimley from the Ulster Off-Road Commission is also excited by this new venue, “The growth of CX continues unabated and the emergence of new venues is good for the sport, The Ecclesville Demesne looks like being a great venue adding to some quality venues across ulster many of which we couldn’t use without the invaluable support of local councils” Keep free Sunday 6th January for a great days racing round the Ecclesville Demesne.
