With weather warnings in place from Met Eireann, the numbers were a little less than the norm in Derroura for Round 3 of the Biking Blitz. That said the Racing was still very exciting and we had our own storm Garreth. Storming away from the start Garreth Davis ( Biking.ie ) held a 1 minute lead over Andrew Newman ( WORC) at the end of lap 1 but Newman looked impressive as he gave chase in determined fashion. Rob Tobin with Padraig Marry was next but Tobin suffered a puncture which put him out of the race. Davis held on to take the win but his lead was diminishing as the line grew closer Andrew Newman placed second Padraig Marry took 3rd place It had been decided that Super Pro Racers had to complete lap one in 1 hr or less failing to do so and they were not permitted to start lap 2. Fifteen Super Pro men got to do the second lap and the very much in form Asia Bula ( Scott Eurocycles) was the sole woman to complete the 2 Lap race .

Asia Bula’s hard work pay’s off

Aaron Finnerty ( Ballina )continues to impress having won the U/16 Race in Ballinastoe in Round 1, he placed 3rd in the Junior Race in Ballyhoura and put in a super performance winning the Junior Race in extremely harsh weather. The Baggy Shorts Women’s Race was won by Tarja Owens ( Biking.ie ) she was followed home by Ciara Nolan ( Giant Liv ) and Katrin Parsons. In the Men’s Baggy Shorts Race, victory went to John Connolly ( Gerry Mc Veigh Cars ) Anthony Hammond took second place but finished with a mechanical so may have been closer, third was Ryan Connolly ( Galway MTB) I am looking forward to seeing the final round in Ticknock, John Hammer
