Rain and wind greeted us today, nothing rely unusual for March but still very annoying for the riders and the photographers today in Lurgan (Derrymacash). The handicap race was started with sending the A4 away for the 8 laps (75km in total) first and a few minutes later the A3’s including the juniors. Soon the A4’s been caught by a break ahead of the A3’s with Kevin Lynch taking 5 juniors in tow, and they just rode away from the A4’s. The super vet Kevin did nearly the same last week and drove the break to more than a minute away from any danger behind and shaked off 4 from the 5 juniors in the latter half of the race. Nathan Keown the only who could keep up with a man who is 40 years older !! while Lee Harvey (Vc Glendale) Jean-paul Hagan (Banbridge CC), Ciaran Dixon ( Step 1 Diabetic Team GB) and local junior Ciaran Cahoon ( Clann Eireann) had to let them go and been caught by a reduced bunch soon after. (note: 4 of the 5 juniors mentioned here are all in the Belgian Project selection pool what pleased me) In the final lap at the home straight Nathan attacked Kevin and took a few hundred meters to come solo over the line…but the day has to go to Kevin who after 2 races already achieved his A2 status and I bet he will do well there as well, knowing Kevin.
After the race a prize giving was held in the Good Year social club with a feast of special sarnies full of filling and wraps including hot drinks kindly donated by Steven Lavery ( refrigeration & plummer) and member of the Lurgan club. Well done Clann, it was a few years ago I visited the GP and glad I did again today….results below and all photos from Sharon Mc Farland who acted as guest photographer today and greatly appreciated.
