The Canal Crit as part of the CU youth league. A report of the senior races tomorrow morning…
The day started early for me today as a 200-mile return journey ahead for me, no sweat as every race day is a good day. Strabane is a border town with Donegal and close to Derry and Letterkenny and for the 4th time promoting their Canal Criterium, also for the second time a youth cycling festival was held (Part of the CU Youth league) I was there last year and a storm was looming with awful rain and wind, and It didn’t look good today either on the way up, but the rain stayed away with spells of sunshine during the race (Frank Mitchell eat your heart out ..lol)
The underage racing had 5 races, from as young as below 8 and finishing with the U16 boys and girls…due to my commentary job not many photos were taken but guest photographer Raymond Mc Carron was on hand for some photos. These races have been supported by a good nr of riders from as far as Belfast, Newcastle, Dromore and Newtownards to name a few towns, including a good attendance of the neighbouring Donegal clubs and not forgetting the local girls and boys.
Provisional results above of each race, full results on a later date as it was part of the CU Youth League and need to be sorted first. It was a great morning and with a unique gesture, all kids had a free mail at the local chip van after the race… this felt like home at the crit’s except in Belgium it is not free… it is in Northern Ireland!!!! Medals for the podium too…not bad he’ Well done Strabane-Lifford CC … I’ll be back as Arnold said
