After David’s crash in the Citadel de Namur CX last Sunday, our sole Irish representative was maybe not in top condition, and a bit sore in his next cross yesterday in Zolder (UCI Nation CX World Cup) but done the job well. A very respectable 39th out of 61 world level espoirs as a result. We have been in touch with David at his home from home in Moorslede last night and this is what he told me “It was a mostly flat course that is always fast, doesn’t normally suit my kind of riding but only 3m40sec from the winner I feel happy enough. Gave it everything I had and no problems. Not too sore, a little muscle pain from bruising but it didn’t impact performance” A very humble review from our warrior in the Flanders
A well deserved Belgian beer for David’s mechanic Kurt Lamont who has been helping our cyclo-crosser for a few seasons now, a service that is much needed at such level. Kurt does this on a voluntary base, a lot of travelling is involved and we here in Ireland appreciated such dedication to one of her own!!
Here a selfie of Martine Verfaillie (David’s adopted mum in Belgium) with mechanic Kurt Lamont…we owe these people big time. Martine will be in Enniscrone Sligo for the Nationals as a guest of the Conroy family, and I am looking forward to meeting up again with the project’s guest mum and share our love of cycling photography and youth development
