Report courtesy of Emyvale CC
A great days racing was had in Emyvale and Glaslough, with almost 140 riders spread over two races. There was a handicapped start for the C1’s with the C2’s being given a 5 minute head start for the 109km race at 10am. The C1’s chased hard and knocked 2 minutes off the lead in the first lap. They gradually whittled down the margin to approx. one minute and probably would have closed the gap, but for a bad crash at Faulkland Bridge on the penultimate lap. This gave the C2’s the breathing space required to seal the deal and the overall win was taken by junior James Armstrong of Molenspurters Meulebeke. 1st Unplaced women Aine Doherty – Dan Morrissy
Finish line spectators were in for a treat a minute later with a hotly contested C1 bunch sprint. It was a stunning bike throw photo finish with unplaced C1 honours taken by Toby Sweetman of VC Glendale on his Giant Propel pipping Odhran Doogan of Team Caldwell Cycles by a whisker. (see below)
The C3 race rolled out at 10:06 for a 65km race. An unfortunate touch of wheels on the second lap at Corracrin took down 15 riders, most of whom withdrew from the race with the bunch well up the road. The gallop for the line was taken convincingly by Jamie Clarke of Northdown CC. 1st unplaced women was Holly McCaffrey – Longcourt Hotel NCW Wheelers
