Ards CC has a very rich history when it comes to open races over the last 75 years with great top riders coming out of their ranks, most notable was Martyn Irvine the last 10 years, who became a world track champ, and so many more well-known riders over the years. The club has in the last years also grown as a leisure club and their membership has now exceeded the 150 mark, which includes over 25% female riders. The open riders involvement over the last 3 years have increased, some youth riders have joined and now a race committee has been established to keep our tradition as a racing club alive! This attracts sponsors and soon a club sponsor will be announced to get the 2020 season a kick start so to speak. The club will again promote the “Tour of Ards” as the main open event, and the usual “Town Centre Races” and the famous “Champ of Champions” not forgetting the “Tour of Strangford” in the Autumn as the charity sportive of the club who raise each year money for local causes. As a member since 2005 and now a very proud honorary member of the club, I can also announce a continues support towards the Belgian Project with co-sponsorship, this already for the 5th year in a row and very grateful for their help to keep us going and make it possible for some youngsters to “Live the Dream” Here below the latest news of the club and their plans for the coming year if not years. So proud to be involved in a club who takes the bull by the horns.

A Racing Committee has been set up within the club in order to assist all members with their racing exploits in road races, time trials etc., and also with a view to entering an Ards CC Racing Team in specific events on the Cycling Ireland Calendar. The Racing Committee is made up of reps (for Elite/Ladies/M40/U23/Junior/Youth/Time Trial) who will communicate the needs of racing members to the Ards CC Committee. Any club members intending to race or time trial next year (at any level)… Please make themselves known to either John Rafferty or Chris White via Facebook PM.
