After been hampered in the pre-tour criterium in Adelaide last Sunday due to a crash in front of him Sam made sure he stayed away from trouble in the first stage in Tanunda of the Tour Down Under. His teammate and friend Shane Archbold done a perfect lead-out for Sam and as many times before when together in Bora. Sam went upfront with 200 meters to go and unstoppable going to the finish line with a clear run near the barricades. This is very promising for the new Wolfpack member, I bet his supporter’s club “Go Sam” in Moorslede went banana’s seeing such an impressive win so early in the season. The Wervik born Irishman will get more chances this week and goes into the second stage as the leader of the race. One of my favourite pro’s Andre Greipel returns to top-class sprinting with a 5th place and a very notable close second for the new Belgian kid on the block Jasper Philipsen (UAD) Viviani (ex Quickstep) had to be happy with 4th this time around. A thank you to Peter Power-Hynes for the photo’s as I fell asleep and missed the finish for some screen prints
