Michael Vanthourenhout (Pauwels Sauces-Bingoal) won the first round of the World Cup season in Tabor, Czech Republic, on Sunday. The 26-year-old Vanthourenhout made it a few seconds ahead of his teammate Eli Iserbyt. Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) finished third. Vanthourenhout rode a strong cross, but Iserbyt did not immediately give up. In the end, Vanthourenhout made the difference, and Iserbyt had to release. Van Aert finished third not too far away. In the World Cup, only five rounds are scheduled this season, a lot less than the anticipated fourteen because many organizers no longer saw a cross in this corona year. This means that the World Cup has been hit the hardest of the three regularity criteria. The prize money is also a lot lower than in other years because of fewer heats.

Iserbyt won the CAPS Urban Cross on Saturday in Kortrijk. In his first cross this winter, Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) in West Flanders also finished in third place.(Photo courtesy @PhotoNews)
