The Dane Andreas Kron (22) has won the first stage in the Volta a Catalunya. The newest recruit of Lotto-Soudal was the fastest of a quartet of escapee’s in the last quarter of the race
In the final, a quartet took over. Lotto-Soudal was represented by Andreas Kron. The Dane was joined by Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), Lennard Kämna (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Rémy Rochas (Cofidis). Kämna rode for his classification, the peloton showed too little cohesion in the pursuit.
Anyone who thought that the experienced Sanchez would teach everyone a lesson in the sprint was disappointed. Kron, also only 22 years old, proved that Lotto-Soudal’s transfer policy is paying off. In the rankings, Kämna does a business with a 16-second bonus. Chris Froome confirmed that he still has a lot of work to do. The Briton finished at 8’30 “. Nicolas Roche was 16th in the chasing bunch 16 seconds down, so was Dan Martin in 34th place and at the same time as Nico…all to play for tomorrow!!
