The 109th edition of the Scheldeprijs (1.Pro) will start around noon in Terneuzen (the Netherlands). Traditionally it’s a sprinter’s race finishing in Schoten near Antwerp. The course is as flat as a billiards surface. Despite this, it promises to be a tough race this year due to the bad weather conditions. The cold, snow, hail, rain, and a strong westerly wind will probably ensure that it will not be a compact peloton that sprints for the victory. Mark Cavendish won this 3 times (photo above) and now a teammate of Sam Bennett (Elegant Deceuninck-Quickstep) who is considered one of the big favourites today. Live on TV from around 3 pm on Eurosport and GNC

Sean Nolan’s dad John told me last night that Evo Pro is 1 of only 2 Continental teams invited so it’s a big deal to get to the start. As you know Sheldeprijs is known as the unofficial sprinter’s championship with Mark Cavendish being a multiple previous winner & Caleb Ewan the winner from last year. Sam Bennett is down to lead the Deceuninck-Quickstep team on what’s going to be a cold windy day.

Alice Sharp from the Rupelcleaning-Champion Lubricants team is the only Irish entry today….we wish her a great and safe race >>> Startlist ladies: https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/scheldeprijs-vrouwen-elite/2021/result/startlist (Photo Alice courtesy of #Loetie Photography) Belgium
