A bit of info of the host of the 2024 National Cyclo-cross Champs “GREENMOUNT CYCLING ACADEMY” and his valuable sponsors who made this possible!! (Sat 13th -Sun 14th January) Vincent Gleeson (Race director) told us last night>>

Welcome to the Greenmount Cycling Academy for 2024. This will be our 12th year of providing cycling coaching at Limerick Racecourse. The numbers attending the academy have grown every year and we have changed to accommodate the needs of our members. Our academy ran a full program last year after 2 years of shortened seasons in 2019 and 2020.
We ran our academy and inclusion club for approx 18 weeks, held 4 race days, hosted riders from all over the country, ran the Munster Criterium Championships and we ran round 6 of the Munster Cyclocross league in November.
Our youth training takes place each Wednesday, 18.30pm -19.30pm, starting on April 17th 2024 at Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell. We intend to have training most Wednesdays until the end of August. Please keep an eye on Greenmount Cycling Academy on Facebook and our parents WhatsApp group for the latest news and to check if training is on each week. Usually it will be.
The Academy provides a training program for all youth members from age 6 up to 15 years old, boys and girls in a safe car free location. This training is primarily aimed at preparing youths for competitive road cycling and cyclocross for age categories, U10, U12, U14 and U16. Qualified coaches provide the skills and training advice necessary to take part in racing. The coaches will provide information to new members on bike setup, gearing, training etc
Please respect the racecourse property and keep off the horse racetrack grass.
We welcome youths from all clubs to the academy. Cycling Ireland our national governing body recommends all youths join a club after their first 3 sessions with us. Greenmount Cycling Academy is a registered Cycling Ireland Club. You can join at https://membership.cyclingireland.ie/. A youth licence (under 10) costs €10. In tandem with our academy our club will be running youth races on 4 race days. You must have a Cycling Ireland licence to take part in these races and entry is online. Our club membership is €25 for the year. This can be paid when you are taking out your CyclingIreland licence.
We have 16 members taking part this weekend.
We have about 100 members who come from all over to cycle with us. We have youth members from county Limerick, Clare, Galway, Tipperary, Cork and Kerry.
In the past few years we have had teams in the Ras Tailteann, Rás na mBan and the Junior Tour.
We have had riders represent Ireland and have had National Champions, Munster Champions and County Champions on the road.
We recently had 4 coaches qualified as Level 1 Cycling Coaches.
Our inclusion club has trikes, tandems and handcycles for cyclists who need them.
We have a fundraiser this June weekend where we are cycling from Hook Head to Loop Head with Conor O’Dea to raise funds for a club Minibus.
<<<< Conor O Dea, is a former Gaelic footballer & Ironman triathlete who suffered a serious spinal injury when training for an Ironman event in 2018.
He spent 18 months in rehabilitation hospitals and has continued his rehabilitation programme at his home since 2020.
His recovery to date has enabled him to use a trike as part of his rehabilitation. He completed Malin to Mizen in 5 days in June 2023.
Using this trike he is completing the Coast to Coast (Hook Head to Loop Head) fundraising cycle event for Greenmount Cycling Academy from Friday May 31st to Sunday June 2nd 2024 with a team including family, friends. & supporters as well as members of Greenmount Cycling Academy.
