His son Steven told social media yesterday noon: “Folks apologies for posting this on what should be a joyous Christmas Day for us all, can’t believe I’m writing this but my daddy, my hero and best friend Maurice McAllister passed away peacefully in Antrim hospital there this afternoon after a short term illness. I want to thank everyone who has been messaging asking about him, the visitors who called with him and all those wishing him a return to good health, unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be as he took very unwell again last night and took his final breath just there at lunchtime. I want to thank the staff in the Causeway Hospital stroke ward, the doctors and nurses in Mid Ulster who worked to try and get him back on his feet and the team at Antrim Hospital who made his final hours as comfortable as possible. All funeral arrangements will be shared later in the week. Rest easy daddy, I love you, you’re going to be missed terribly“
