Former racing cyclists and members of RaceFace are preparing to race once more. For some, it’s been nearly a decade since they last pinned on a race number. Now, in an effort to promote and preserve cycling on our roads, they’re stepping back into the peloton. This time for Ras Maigheo 2 Day.
We all know cycling in Ireland has faced its challenges—race license holders are in decline, and road racing is at a crossroads. But perhaps 2025 is the year things change. Sometimes, all it takes is a small shift—a change in attitude—to spark a revival.
That’s what RaceFace is all about. They’re not waiting for the perfect time or peak fitness—they’re taking action. Signing on. Turning up. Leading by example.
Hopefully, their comeback can inspire more cyclists to return to the roads and help a club with a local tradition of keeping our sport alive.
Father-son duo Noel and Keith Mulroy, along with Noel and Charlie Kelly, head the posse. They are followed by veterans Michael Brady (builder), Darragh Delaney (computer analyst), John Gilleran (plumber), Padraig Marrey (postman), Anthony Murray (Westport bike shop), paramedic Bryan Hyland, and adventurer Trevor Costello. Their fate will be at the mercy of the race organizers.
