The Belgian Project feels for all event organisers and his volunteers at this moment, but the decision made by the federation is understandable in such an unprecedented situation
Following on from Government advice this morning, Cycling Ireland announces that all Cycling Ireland approved events are to be cancelled with immediate effect until and including March 29th.
Cycling Ireland will continue to closely monitor advice from the Public Health teams on the island of Ireland and a further statement will be announced later this evening around club activities. Cycling Ireland is guided by expert HSE advice and will physically close our office from tomorrow morning, but all staff will be operating our business from their homes. We have all prepared to operate telephones and emails remotely to minimise disruption to our business. We understand that this decision will result in inconvenience to event organisers and disappointment to our membership, however, we are making this decision in the best interest of our membership and wider community and in line with Government advice. We urge all our members to follow the advice of the public health bodies until further notice
Additionally, we would urge all members to follow the advice that has been provided by the appropriate agencies regarding the best way to minimise the risks of infection as well as what you should do if you feel unwell and are developing symptoms, this can be found in greater detail via the HSE website or Public Health Authority in Northern Ireland https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/coronavirus.html https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/news/covid-19-coronavirus
As club and individuals may be planning cycling trips to events outside the country in the coming weeks, it is important to review travel guidance relating to specific countries and regions around the world which have been impacted by COVID-19. Information in this regard is available on the Department of Foreign Affairs website – https://www.dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice/coronavirus/ Be mindful that it could be possible that after arriving at your foreign destination that you could be put into quarantine for a number of days, yours in sport Cycling Ireland
