Lorraine’s professional rider teammates Martha Bastianelli and Anna Trevisi won first and second place respectively overall and as a whole, they won first place in the team’s prize!!
Lorraine rode very well from the start and a lead group rapidly broke away shortly after the neutralised start. Most of the lead group was made up of Lorraine’s team and the Dubai Police team. Lorraine and her colleagues worked hard keeping further breaks in check through the tough crosswinds which saw some tidy echelons formed.
Lorraine explains that “eventually I lost contact in the crosswinds. I’m too light. and though I wasn’t struggling, we kept the lead group in sight until the last 15kms.”
In addition to Lorraine, the rest of the winning team was composed of pro riders Gienia Bujak, Ursa Pintar, and another talented Irish rider Roisin Thomas living in Dubai.
The team and its principals are understandably overjoyed at the fantastic results. Lorraine reckons she finished 13th overall but is more certain that she was the first amateur rider home, which is pretty impressive with so many pros in the field.
Emyvale CC responded…Well done Lorraine and team and thanks for the report.
Lorraine told her old club Emyvale CC: Thank you we are delighted with the outcome. I had not raced in 1 year and this was definitely one to remember. Thank you to all Emyvale CC for all their well wishes and support it means a lot to me and Emyvale CC is where it all started.
