Wout van Aert crashed badly in the time trial yesterday in Pau, about a kilometre from the finish, the already stage winner a few days ago collided hard in a sharp corner with a barrier, and as result, his Tour ended early. Wout was conscious and received medical help at the road. After the first treatments, he was taken to the hospital. According to the first reports, he has not suffered any fractures from his fall but a deep flesh wound on his upper leg to be operated on.
Van Aert was counted among the most important contenders for the stage victory !! The young ex CX world champ already won the individual TT in the Dauphiné last month in France, and the Belgian TT championship this year. With his Dutch Team Jumbo-Visma, he also won the team time trial in Brussels in the second stage. We wish Wout a speedy recovery and surely on his tender age he will have other chances to show his skills in the TDF
