The Masters 40 race

The first race off after the junior race was the M40 and from the off, a battle unfolded between the 18 times ex Elite Irish CX Champ and world champ Robin Seymour (Team WORC) and the Newry Wheeler warrior and current champ Alan Bingham. Robin and Alan distanced themselves from the chasing riders with only Barry Kellet behind them as a possible danger if things went wrong…it didn’t and Alan retained his Champ Jersey with Robin in second and a very good 3rd for Barry.

The Masters 50 Race

Master 50 + ready to go

Next, we had the M50 race and it was a WOODY affair, 2 lads with the same surname battling for gold…Trevor Woods (Strata3-Velorevolution) at one hand, Des Woods (Newry Wheelers) on the other…Des an ex-champ but Trevor an old hand at running as a triathlon athlete, which in the end made the difference for Trevor who took a minute out of Des and a deserved silver, John Doris (Epic MTB-Expert Cycling) was heading the chasers and bronze for his efforts!

The Masters 60 race

Early domination of Johnny Mc Cabe (Cuchulainn CC) folded the race to his outcome with Chris McCann (Banbridge CC) taking a well-deserved silver medal and the only other rider to be a danger to the Irish Champ 2019 Johnny. Terence O’Neill (Epic Mtb-Expert Cycles) got the bronze a few minutes later. Amazing efforts of them all in such hard conditions at their age!!
