2 well loved figures in Irish Cycling together for a selfie

We had Nico’s dad Stephen getting the headlines in the 80 ties globally, putting Irish Cycling very much in the spotlights with winning grand tours, so did Sean Kelly around that time. It was a while before some new icons came to the foreground, but it happened in the last 2 decades for sure. Nicolas is one of them and it proves that an apple doesn’t far fall from the tree…Born in France (where he still lives) and a pro since 2004 (Cofidis his first team) His Palmares impressive, especially 3 Vuelta España stage wins over the years, the Route du Sud in 2014, twice road champion in Ireland ( 2009-2016) and two National time trials gold (2007-2016) to name just a few. Last year he held on to the red jersey of the Vuelta for 3 days for his new team Sunweb (this was not the first time he has worn that jersey, as in 2013 he held on for 6 days as a teammate of Contador) and 10th in the Tour De Suisse…not bad for this now seasoned pro wouldn’t you think? As it is hard to be able to get a UCI World Tour rider to talk to you before a race, Nico has done this for us with a smile...Merci mon Ami (Photos and video courtesy of David Mc Veigh of our BP media team

And winning he did!!
Shane Stokes got Nico to talk to him minutes after the race
The deciding break with some big hitters and ex champs…Eddie Dunbar now world tour pro rider) Damian Shaw (2015 Champ) Mark Downey (Track World cup winner) and 4 time Irish Champ Matt Brammeier ….more photos on https://www.flickr.com/photos/thebelgianproject/albums/72157670323456335
