Ronan Mc Laughlin is a very well-liked man in our sport, during his pro-life with An Post he has done some exceptional performances, the stage of the Ras going into Donegal would still be in anyone’s mind, his love for cycling after his pro adventures even more noticeable as a coach, kit provider with Pactimo, part of the CI Directors panel and chairman of Foyle CC. He loves challenges (remember the Nationals in 2019 in Derry as one of the race directors) and always has a charitable cause in mind…well he does it again with an attempt to beat the Irish Record in the Everesting Challenges, and the Mamore Gap as the venue, a beast of a climb in Donegal. He will go up and down this climb till he reached 8,848 meters required for an Everesting ascent, and try to beat the official Irish record held by Peter McLean from Ards CC Peter climbed the Shay Elliot 36 times in 10 hours 59 minutes to reach the Everest ascent!! The charity Ronan has chosen to benefit on the day is “The Community Rescue Service” (CRS) a charitable search and rescue organisation in Ireland. Ronan told social media “On Sunday 12th July I am attempting to climb the equivalent height of Mt Everest by completing 62.5 laps of Mamore Gap. In the process, I hope to raise some much-needed funds for the incredible Community Rescue Service. CRS are the experts in finding and rescue people if they should go missing. Their work is difficult and long but invaluable to the families of those missing. CRS provides all aspects of search and rescue falling under the remit of Lowland Rescue including ground, inland water, bike, boat, and more. Please consider donating to this worthy cause. All funds raised will go directly to the CRS” The Belgian Project will make a report of how it went in the coming days, personally I think he is pleasantly mad choosing this climb, but hey if Ronan pulls it off, it will be another feather in his already well-feathered cap….good luck Ronan (click the link to found the fundraiser page) https://www.gofundme.com/f/22imvh8w1c
