Sam Bennett has powerfully won the first bunch sprint in the Vuelta coming from behind. Jasper Philipsen seemed on his way to a stage win but was still remounted from our Irishman Sam from Deceuninck-Quick Step. Leader Primoz Roglic had a quiet day in the peloton and no changes in the GC. It came to a mass sprint, Jasper Philipsen is the first to turn the last corner before the finish, and immediately starts his sprint. He hits a huge speed and appears to be heading for a first stage win in a Grand Tour. But that was not counted the innkeeper Sam Bennett, who ultimately still bangs over Philipsen. There are only a handful of sprinters in the Vuelta, but there are also only a handful of sprint opportunities and Sam Bennett immediately manages to grab the first chance. He is the second rider after Primoz Roglic to win a stage in two grand tours this year. Now that is the second Irish win back to back in the opening week of the Vuelta with Dan Martin winning the hilltop stage yesterday. Well done Sam and team Deceuninck-Quickstep
