The traditional 10 TT on Christmas Day was upheld today in the town of Newtownards County Down, with the lockdown starting tomorrow on Boxing Day, some very strict rules in place such as a limited entry, mask for officials, and a handful of spectators adhering to the social distance guidance, this to make it a safe event in this cruel times. 9 testers at the start including a penny-farthing retro cyclist in name of ex-Olympian MTB athlete Alastair Martin (Ards CC) and last years winner Ian Inglis (Kinning Cycles) to defends his multiple titles of this festive event. No presents exchanged or prizes given this year due to Covid-19, only the trophy was handed over to the winner Peter Mc Lean in a safe manner, this for a quick photo establishing the new Champion… Peter broke the all-time record of 21m55 sec held by Ryan Connor (Ballymena RC and now living in the USA) with 44 seconds!!! The record now stands at 21m11sec for the 10 miles on the shores of the Strangford Loch. Peter’s girlfriend and triathlon star Fiona Kelly (NDCC) was the fastest lady in 27m57s, beating her teammate from North Down Gillian Orr. Both have an Ard’s CC husband or partner in common. Lovely weather with sunshine and a slight breeze perfect for a test. Enjoy your last day of freedom as another lockdown on its way…stay safe and see you all in 2021 hopefully
