A very warm day and recorded as the hottest ever track event in Belfast (Orangefield) according to the Ulster Track Commission the promoters of this year’s National Irish Youth Track Championship. About 36 youngsters from all corners of the Island competed for the medals on offer with 3 disciplines to conquer! The day started with the “Sprint Qualifiers” followed by the “Time Trials” Next was the “Sprint Semi-Finals” and in the afternoon the “Scratch Races” and the “Sprint Medal ride off” to end the long hot day. We had 6 groups of competitors on the tarmac with Under 12 girls and boys, U14 girls and boys, and the U16 girls and boys. A family day it really was, with the parents very much involved with holding up and encouraging their sons or daughters, and their brothers, and sisters shouting them on from the football pitch in the middle of the track. The place was buzzing…had the honour of being the MC for the day, unfortunately, the event took that long and my PA system running out of juice and the music went quiet (the youngsters relieved as the tunes being from before they had been born, on the other hand, their parents disappointed…lol) so the rest was done by Megaphone to complete the job. Thanks to the commission for the donation towards the project…it keeps us on the road to serve our beloved sport the best we can! Here are the results below and some selected photos…each competitor can found his or her’s photos on the Flickr link above…

A special mention of Jack Watson, over 80 years old and still going strong as commissaire, here seen with Cathal Clark (Ex BP Graduate an Armagh Down cyclist) helping out with the times and results
