Life does deals sometimes bad cards, Andy was a enthousiastic cyclist, competitive and leisure wise till the dreadful and creul cancer striked, his passion abtrubtly stopped! I met Andy at the races mostly when he was on duty as PSNI sergeant in charge of the PSNI motorbike support at our big races, such as the Tour of Ards, the Tour of the North and the Tour of Ulster…always had time for us, and this with a smile…always kind words towards my work in cycling which I appreciated so much…him and his colleagues made sure we travelled with the cavalcade in a very safe matter…we miss the motorbike outriders from the PSNI very much now due to budget costs, but we will miss Andy even more…RIP my friend

Cycling Ulster told social media: ” Cycling Ulster is saddened to hear of the death of Andy Young who passed away on Saturday morning in the Marie Curie Hospice with his wife Lee-Anne by his side. Andy was a enthusiastic Club cyclist and was an active member of North Down CC and in recent years Bikehouse CC. He was much loved by his family and will be much missed by all his cycling friends with who will miss his wicked sense of humour and craic. Andy never took anything too seriously. Cycling Ulster is also indebted to Andy and has fond memories of him from our major cycle races throughout the province. Andy was often to be seen as the driver of the lead car of the escort team who keep our riders safe. Andy always loved his cycle racing days and was first to put his hand to be part of the escort team. He will remembered for his support for The Tour of Ulster, Tour of the North and many of the one day classics throughout the race calendar that benefitted from a full escort. Thank you for your service Andy from all that had the pleasure of working with you in Cycling Ulster. The Executive of Cycling Ulster send our condolences to Andy’s wife Lee-Anne and his young son Leo. The house is strictly private. Funeral arrangements will be added to this post when they are finalised
