West Meath’s Aoife O’Brien (U23) joins “Cycling Team Belco/Van Eyck” the Belgian top amateur women’s team, and replaces her older sister Caoimhe in the team, who has been signed for the “DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK” UCI Women’s continental cycling team.

A team who has amateur status, but certainly offers what pro continental teams do!! Aoife and her team mates are in good hands!! Follow them on https://www.facebook.com/groups/141645632662380

Aoife back to back with Maaike De Mits

Some pro teams would be jealous of such support!!

Aoife will have some great supporters while racing in Belgium, here seen with Nancy Goossens and husband Johan, well known support crew for the Irish National team! (Selfie from Johan)

The Belgian Project wishes both girls a great and safe season…you certainly will hear of them!! (photo Dany BP Media)

One of Aoife team mates this year will be Leontine Farazijn, an upcoming talented young lady, with the genes of a prolific 8th times Tour de France rider called Peter Farazijn (Ex Lotto, Telecom, Cofidis and Weinmann-Eddy Merckx) and sister of ex-pro Maxim Farazijn!!

A big thank you to Freddy Jansegers (Team mechanic) for the info sent…Freddy a big supporter of Irish Lady racing (Here seen with the King of Irish Cycling)

NextThe 3 Irish CX warriors with Greta Lawless (Junior Girl), Conor Murphy (Junior Men) and Dean Harvey (Espoir) done their superbest, as they have to climb a hell of a mountain from the back of the grid, not to mention bad luck at the 2024 UCI CX World Champs in Tábor (Czech Republic) It their was medals for the support they received, the traveling support gang would deserve GOLD!!

The Belgian Project nearly has the 2025 sponsors sorted!! Still looking for a main sponsor (or 2 x Level B co-sponsors) and welcoming “VICTUS-ENERGY” back after a few years. They have provided us with a powerful mobile PA system, as before to generate money for the bursary fund!! Also a big thanks to our loyal backers for their continues support next year, without you it would not be possible!! (Mon 16th Dec)

After long deliberation, and intense traveling to witness their progress at races all over the country to study their characters, and their ability to communicate with me, I am happy to announce the 4 successful graduates (Belgian summer racing with guest families) and the 12 bursary holders for 2022. This was not an easy decision as this year had an exceptional batch of talented riders entered (56 in total)
