2 more medals on day 2 for Team Ireland!!
Men C4 Pursuit Final (Ronan Grimes Bronze)
Grimes broke the Irish Record to qualify for the bronze medal ride, lowering the mark to 4:45.045 for the 4-kilometre test. In the race for Bronze, Grimes lined up against Jason Marcon of the USA. The two riders were separated by 0.1 of a second in qualification, putting pressure on Grimes to improve on this in the fight for bronze. Grimes delivered in the afternoon session setting a second Irish Record, a stunning 4:43.806 to win bronze for Ireland. Marcon also bettered his qualification time to ride 4:44.537. “I’m really happy with that performance. The qualifiers in the morning were really tight, there was a second between second, third and fourth” Ronan commented after the race. “I knew I was in for a hard ride in the afternoon but luckily I delivered. The plan that we set out for the afternoon, my laps were a lot smoother. I’m delighted to come away with that medal.” (report courtesy of CI)
