The Carn Wheelers 2024 “Carn Classic Races” have been held in Maghera early this morning with a 9am start with 3 races on the menu…Storm Kathleen hitted earlier some Eastern parts of the Country, but we escaped most of it, except heavy winds near the end of the races, but all the riders had a safe journey. In the A2 race Curtis Neill (Lyon Sprint Evolution) and local U23 won his first race this year, and in some style…away from km 1 on his own, and kept this going till the 4th lap, got reeled in, and straight away got involved in the following break, and got away again, but now the winning move…after winning the Dornan Ras Mumhan A2 Jersey, he only needed 1 point to move to A1 status, well..it became 10 pts for the win and A1 rider now. The ex-BP graduate Curtis made me proud!! In the A3 race a few breaks, but every time been hauled back, but when junior Cameron Henry (Inspired Cycling) jumped, only routineer and veteran rider Chris Richardson (Killinchy CC) could keep pace with the lad…they stayed away and in the uphill sprint to the line, youth prevailed over experience…come back rider Brandon Douglas (Dromore Cycling Club) took the last spot on the podium, Erin Creighton (Mc Convey Cycles) won the 1st women’s prize ahead of Darcy Harkness (Vc Glendale) in the A3 race!! In the A4 race Shane Hughes (Apollo CC) was the best of the bunch sprint, Elena Wallace (Harps CC) was the winning women, she was upfront all race and ended up 7th!! Thanks to Carn Wheelers for the donation received towards my work, and well organised as per usual!! Well done to all riders, hard men and women for sure!!
