I know Sam for about 11 years now, Met the Irish sprint rocket the first time at the nationals as an Espoir, and our pads crossed again due to my current guest parents of the Belgian Project Sabien Himpe and Rik Masil. Rik used to play pro soccer with the dad of Sam (Mike) in Wervik and Sam was born there. Sam was never a graduate of the Belgian Project but stayed many summers in Moorslede with his parent’s friends, who became guest parents for us soon after (Peter Hawkins recommended the project to them) A small world indeed. Sam became a renowned sprinter since, flying the flag for Ireland internationally and home with winning this year the National Elite Champs in Derry, in his own words his proudest moment. They even have a supporters club in Moorslede for Sam with hundreds of members called “GO SAM Bennett”
