Let us introduce Donal, I know him mostly from the big occasions when South meets North, or the other way about and have borrowed his photographs at occasions when not able to attend some races due to the distance and location. When I invited Donal to take part in my series and asked to sent me his favourite 15, I was honoured he replied to the request and Donal told me “I’m a late vocation when it comes to cycling. I started with a few Charity Cycles and Sportives about 12 years ago. I joined Lakeside Wheelers in Mullingar and even did a term as President. I don’t know if I’m a leisure cyclist who takes photographs or a photographer who cycles. Either way, I manage to combine both. The cycling fraternity is like one big family. I’ve many friends through cycling….both on and off the bike. Looking through my photos, I’ve realised I’m like the mother of a large family…….I have no real favourites. I was surprised and delighted to be asked. I find myself in some serious company” which I have to reply “rightly so” (Feature photo of Donal by John Hammer)
