I personally haven’t met Michael unfortunately, I only knew him by name when he represented Ireland at the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008. Michael was wearing the Irish National Jersey at Worldcups and UCI World championships many times prior to that. Cycling Ireland said yesterday “It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Paralympian Michael Delaney, following a hard battle with cancer, Michael contributed greatly to the team efforts and his work and determination allowed many others to follow in his path. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Fionnuala and his 2 children, along with the Delaney family. Michael will be sadly missed by his many friends and colleagues in the Paracycling community” Rest in Peace Michael…An chuid eile i Síochána Michael (both photos courtesy of TI Media Ireland)
