Unfortunately but not unsurprisingly that for the second year in a row the COVID situation has rendered it impossible to run the 2021 Tour of the North. Whilst there is plenty to be optimistic about going forward, it’s going to be too late this year to see racing on our roads this Easter. However, In this day and age, who says the Tour of the North has to be run on the roads? Confused? Good? The Tour Committee was recently approached by the good folk at Team Ulster Zwifters (TUZ) to ask that in the absence of this year’s Tour, could they run an online Zwift version. We were more than happy to agree and support TUZ for the race. The TUZ have been running very successful events online recently including a weekly chase series attracting over 500 racers every Wednesday, complete with live streaming and commentary on YouTube. The format will be similar to our normal race with 4 stages including a short hilly TT.
Ross Blayney (photo) told social media >>> This International race has been running for over 50 year’s every Easter on roads around Northern Ireland. Former winners include the former world number 1 Sean Kelly (1976) and more recently the 2013 World Scratch Track race champion Martyn Irvine from Newtownards who won the 2009 race. Our own Thomas Evans is also a former winner and him along with the commentary team will be streaming the full event live of our TUZ YouTube channel <<< More news soon!!
