Stage 6: 2021 Volta Ciclista Catalunya (Tarragona>>Mataró 193.8k)
After some tough mountain stages, the peloton awaited a slightly flatter, but still quite tough ride to Mataro today. Five early escapees took the plunge but never threatened to get too far ahead and it all was over with 18km to go! On the last small climb of the day, the Alt el Collet, there were a few more attacks but to no avail. In the sprint, Peter Sagan (BORA-Hansgrohe) proved to be the strongest ahead of Daryl Impey (ISN)) and Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE) For Sagan, it was his first victory since he won a stage in the Giro in October 2020. He had to battle with being infected with the Covid-19 virus a few months ago and slowly came back into form. Dan Martin took it easy today and came in 1m39s after Sagan. Tomorrow the last stage in and around Barcelona with 6 laps of a hilly circuit…but it seems Ineos will take the honours in the overall GC.
