Gent-Wevelgem In Flanders Fields WE (UCI 1.WWT) Ypres>>Wevelgem (141.7k)

Marianne Vos added Gent-Wevelgem to her already richly filled honors list (over 400 wins in her career !!) Jumbo-Visma hits a double stroke with Vos because a few hours earlier Wout van Aert sprinted his way to glory! A big group separated themself at the last climb of the Kemmelberg 35 km from the finish…a few attacks on the way to Wevelgem with a strong Longo Borghini and Soraya Paladin (screenshot below) getting a half a minute at the most and hauled back with 500 meters to go…Marianne smelt her chance and powered to the line, beating Belgian champ Lotte Kopecky into second place…German Lisa Brennauer took the last place on the podium. Alice Sharp (Rupelcleaning) was the only Irish girl to finish in the second big group about 4 minutes down to Marianne in 67th place, Mia Griffin DNF.

83rd Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields ME (UCI 1.UWT) Ypres>>Wevelgem (247km)

Wout van Aert has written the 83rd edition of Gent-Wevelgem to his already impressive Palmares. The Jumbo-Visma-Belgian shook off the fastest sprint of a group of 7 after been piloted to the front by his Belgian teammate VAN HOOYDONCK Nathan. It was the remains of a group that took advantage of the echelons who appeared after 70 kilometers near the coast (De Moeren) The plan of Deceuninck-Quickstep didn’t work this time as only a strong Sam Bennett was in the front group. Sam went over all the hills as a newborn climber but took too much fuel doing this and upset his stomach…he physically was sick on the bike and had to let go in the final. But this promises for next week Ronde and he will have learned a lesson today, as he admitted this in an interview…
