Thomas De Gendt (Lotto-Soudal) has achieved a prestigious victory in the Volta a Catalunya. The 34-year-old rider won the last stage in Barcelona. On the Montjuic, he settled in the final lap with his fellow refugee Matej Mohoric. De Gendt knew he had to throw Matej Mohoric overboard. He told the TV camera’s “In the descent, he made a gap. I had to avoid that in the final lap. When I felt that he slowed down, I attacked him”, said the Lotto rider. For De Gendt it is his first victory since his winning performance in the 2019 Tour (St Etienne) Adam Yates is the overall winner. After a dominant team performance, Ineos Grenadiers has completely manipulated the Volta a Catalunya. Adam Yates became the overall winner, teammates Richie Porte and Geraint Thomas were allowed to enter the final podium. Dan Martin was very busy in the chasing bunch but couldn’t just like the GC riders breach the gap to the front…
