A large field of riders contested this year’s Mount Nugent Gp run by Navan Road Club in very wet conditions. Despite efforts by several riders to break away from the bunch, it wasn’t until the 2nd last lap that 4 riders managed to escape the clutches of the big group, and then they had only a small 5 to 10-second gap on the chasing pack. The four consisted of Juniors Sean Lenehan of host club Navan and Dean Harvey, VC Glendale, and 2 Strata3 Velo Revolution riders Paul Forristal and Jack Caldwell fresh from his morning victory in the Danny O’Shea down in Wicklow. Although it looked unlikely that the 4 could hold on with such a tenuous advantage they still held enough of a lead coming down the finishing straight to be able to contest the win with Paul Forristal showing his sprinting credentials once again to take the victory from his teammate Jack Caldwell with Sean Lenehan taking 3rd and Dean Harvey 4th.
