Three years ago Galway Bay Cycling Club became the first club in the country to promote a road race with gravel sectors when it ran the inaugural Galway Classic. The club is about to launch another first for Ireland when the ‘Bog Trials’ take place on four Saturdays in February. This event inspired by the Galway Classic is the first gravel race series in the country and takes place entirely on gravel and unpaved roads in the bogs of east Galway. The races will be like a mixture of the cross, mountain biking and road racing and will favour those with strength and good bike handling skills. The four races will be run as an open league on 4.5k circuits in the bogs of east Galway. Those that have done the Galway Classic will be familiar with the tracks being used.

TICKETS ON SALE! Strandrace Bettystown Beach 2022 / Starsky CC
Big announcements, we have open tickets for our Strandrace event. This is a sportive event so if you have a bike, you can easily join the cycle on Bettystown Beach, but I need to warn you it will not be an easy one.
Many of you will probably think what bike would be best for this occasion from what we can recommend: The first choice Mountain’s bike (MTB) second choice Cycle Cross bike with tyres width of 35mm at least. But this is up to you to decide that’s only our opinion.
As this is a sportive event, we are planning to give everyone a medal at the finish line so why not to grab your unique 2022 Strandrace medal. We are also planning to give trophies to those who stand out that day.
We are planning to start the cycle at 10:30 am on 6th February Sunday. Please cycle at least 5 minutes prior to the start to starting line. We are really excited to see you all back at our events and we wish you a great season 2022!
